How much does it cost?
Fees are moderate, currently $200.00 per year plus $20.00 membership fee to the VHPBA. The band is currently seeking sponsorship to keep fees to a minimum.

What equipment do I need?
Pipers own their bagpipes, however the band assists with maintenance. Drummers do not need to own their instruments. Uniform is supplied, but members purchase their shirts, socks and shoes.

What tartan does the band wear?
We wear the "Flower of Scotland" tartan. This is a registered tartan, but is not aligned to a particular clan. This is the tartan in the banner of this webpage

What if I can't play the pipes or drums?
We can teach you. Learners do not become playing members until they are proficient at their chosen instrument. Learners pay a fee of $50.00 per quarter; they do not pay the normal band membership fees until they begin playing with the band.

What is involved in practice?
We practice on Wednesday evenings from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. During competition season we also practice on occasional Saturdays or Sundays for one hour. Learners tutoring time is from 7.00pm to 8.00pm on Wednesday evenings. Practice is conducted at the Ringwood Pipe Band Hall at the end of the Bedford Park access road off Bedford Rd., Ringwood, Melway 49 K8. Learner pipers will need a practice chanter, and drummers will need a set of drumsticks and practice pad. Tutors will advise you on obtaining these items.

Where does the band play?
We play at functions, such as Scottish balls, and highland gatherings, marches such as the Anzac Day Parade, fetes, community festivals, local community parades, etc. We participate in massed band displays, such as at the Melbourne Cup and the Royal Melbourne Show. We also compete in Highland Pipe Band competitions, where our musical and marching abilities are judged against other bands. Above all we enjoy ourselves. We are a friendly bunch of people who enjoy making music, entertaining people and participating in our social events.

Talk to us » If you are interested, drop in one Wednesday evening, or contact us. We’d love to talk with you about joining our band.
